geo_search finds satellite scenes, weather forecasts and station records by place, time and typed filters and returns a STAC 1.1 ItemCollection, which pystac, QGIS and any STAC client read as they are. geo_fetch returns one Item, and geo_places looks up places and their boundaries in Overture Maps.

Call it

The three tools are served on /geo and, like every tool you have switched on, on /mcp.

Datasets

Six datasets, each a STAC Collection. Call geo_search with no dataset to list them with their time ranges, licenses and attribution.

Dataset What it holds How it is kept current
sentinel-2-c1-l2a Sentinel-2 Collection 1 Level-2A optical imagery, with cloud cover per scene. Queried in place against Element 84's Earth Search API at call time, so the whole archive since 2015 is available.
goes-19-abi · goes-18-abi NOAA GOES ABI Level 2 products: cloud and moisture imagery (ABI-L2-CMIPC, ABI-L2-CMIPF), fire and hot-spot characterization (ABI-L2-FDCC, ABI-L2-FDCF) and aerosol and smoke detection (ABI-L2-ADPC). Synced from NOAA's Open Data buckets every three hours.
hrrr-conus · hrrr-conus-prs HRRR surface (wrfsfc) and pressure-level (wrfprs) forecasts at 3 km over the continental United States, one item per hourly run. Synced from NOAA's Open Data buckets every three hours.
isd-global-hourly NOAA Integrated Surface Database hourly station observations for the current and previous year, one item per station and year. Synced from NOAA's Open Data buckets every three hours.

Every asset carries an access hint, and every dataset served today is public: files download from AWS Open Data buckets with no account. Every collection carries the provider's attribution. Monitors watch the synced datasets; Sentinel-2 is queried live and cannot be monitored.

Area, time and filters

Name one or more datasets in datasets; every other argument is optional.

Area. area is one of a place name such as "Los Angeles" or "Paris, FR", an Overture divisionId from geo_places, a bbox, a GeoJSON geometry in intersects, or a point with a radius in near. A place name resolves through geo_places, first match first, and the response names the place in resolvedPlace; pass a divisionId to be exact. relation sets how a footprint must relate to the area, intersects by default.

Time. datetime is an RFC 3339 instant or interval with open ends, such as 2026-09-01T00:00:00Z/2026-09-30T23:59:59Z or 2026-09-20/..; dates alone are accepted.

Filters and order. filters.maxCloudCover keeps optical scenes at or below a cloud percentage, filters.platform picks satellites such as goes-19, and filters.product picks a product such as ABI-L2-FDCC or wrfsfc; a filter that does not apply to a dataset is ignored. sort is newest first by default, or oldest first, or clearest first with SORT_CLOUD_COVER_ASC.

Pages and fields. limit is up to 100 items, 10 by default; pass nextPageToken back as pageToken for the next page. Items are compact by default, with the key properties and asset links; fields: FIELDS_FULL returns whole items.

geo_fetch
GA

It returns one STAC 1.1 Item by id, with every asset's URL and access hint. Pass dataset when the same id exists in more than one dataset, and fields: FIELDS_FULL for every property.

geo_places
GA

It looks up Overture Maps divisions by name, such as "Paris, Texas", or by a point in near, and returns each with its type, country, region, population, Wikidata id, hierarchy, centroid and bounding box, and with includeGeometry its boundary polygon. subtypes and country narrow the match, and the same lookup resolves every place argument in the other tools.

What comes back

Field Type Meaning
places Place[] They are the matching divisions, best first.
places.id string It is the Overture division id. Pass it as area.divisionId to geo_search or as near.divisionId to news_search.
places.name string It is the division's name.
places.subtype string It is the kind of division: country, region, county, localadmin, locality, borough or neighborhood.
places.country string It is the ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code.
places.region string It is the ISO 3166-2 region code, such as US-CA, when known.
places.population int64 It is the population Overture lists. As an int64 it is a string in the JSON.
places.wikidata string It is the Wikidata QID, when known.
places.hierarchy string[] They are the names of the containing divisions, largest first.
places.parentIds string[] They are the ids of the containing divisions, in the same order as hierarchy.
places.centroid Point It is the centre point, as lon and lat.
places.bbox BBox It is the bounding box, as west, south, east and north in WGS 84 degrees.
places.geometry GeoJSON It is the boundary polygon, with includeGeometry.
attribution string It is the attribution the data requires: Overture Maps Foundation, CDLA-Permissive-2.0, and ODbL for OpenStreetMap-derived content.
places Place[]
